Extreme Heat Warning Issued for LA and Ventura Counties
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties until Thursday, October 8, with temperatures reaching up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit; residents should drink fluids, stay cool, and check on others.
Residents across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued, effective from now until 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast and up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit in valley areas.
The warning, issued by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA, impacts a wide area including Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County Beaches, Ventura County Inland Coast, Lake Casitas, Ojai Valley, Central Ventura County Valleys, Malibu Coast, Los Angeles County Beaches, Palos Verdes Hills, Los Angeles County Inland Coast (including Downtown Los Angeles), Western and Eastern Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Areas, Calabasas and Agoura Hills, Western and Eastern San Fernando Valley, Southeastern Ventura County Valleys, Santa Susana Mountains, and the Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, which increase significantly during extreme heat events, the National Weather Service advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Very hot temperatures are anticipated to continue into the second week of October, and an extension of this warning is possible.
