Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Levy: Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff in Coastal Levy, warning of life-threatening flooding up to 4 feet above ground through Saturday morning, according to the NWS.
Coastal Levy residents in Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Fowler Bluff are under a Storm Surge Watch, issued today, October 9, at 11:21 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL. Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning.
The NWS advises that flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Once the event begins, residents should remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside.
Potential for moderate flooding rain and a few tornadoes also exist. An additional 1 inch of rain is expected. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. The Storm Surge Watch is effective immediately and expires at 7:30 PM UTC today.
