Rip Current Risk and Minor Coastal Flooding for Horry, Georgetown Co.
A High Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties today, October 10, impacting beach safety and low-lying areas.
Residents and visitors in Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties should be aware of a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect today, October 10.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC, issued a Rip Current Statement at 2:22 AM EDT, effective until 8:00 PM EDT tonight. Dangerous rip currents are expected throughout the day. If you are caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim along the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always swim near a lifeguard if possible.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM EDT this morning. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may cause minor coastal flooding on vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches, and along low-lying roads and areas near the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. If travel is necessary during this time, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Check with local officials for the latest information on flood impacts and closures.
