Coastal Horry and Georgetown residents are advised of a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory in effect today, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC issued the Rip Current Statement until 8:00 PM EDT this evening due to a high risk of dangerous rip currents. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM EDT this evening, with up to one foot of inundation expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches may experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and areas along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks will also observe minor coastal flooding. Residents should check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures.

For those in affected areas, if travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may close. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take immediate action to protect their property. For beachgoers, swim only near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
