Residents and visitors in Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties should prepare for a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory. The National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC, issued a Rip Current Statement effective from Saturday, October 10, at 6 AM EDT through Saturday evening. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6 AM to 10 AM EDT on Saturday, October 10.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along the coast. Swimmers are advised to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and signal for help.

Minor coastal flooding is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This includes vulnerable causeways to local beaches and low-lying roads along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. If travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive through barricades or water of unknown depth. Take actions to protect flood-prone property.
