Coastal Horry and Georgetown counties are under a Rip Current Statement and a Coastal Flood Advisory, issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC. Residents and visitors are advised to take immediate precautions.

The Rip Current Statement, effective from 6 AM EDT this morning through this evening, indicates a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Swimmers should only swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm, float, and do not swim against the current. Attempt to swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6 AM to 10 AM EDT this morning. Up to half a foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may lead to minor coastal flooding on vulnerable causeways to beaches and on low-lying roads near the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. Drivers should allow extra time for travel as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary protective actions. For the latest information on flood impacts and closures, contact local officials.
