Rip Current Warning for Coastal Georgia Beaches Until 8 PM Tonight

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for all Coastal Georgia beaches until 8:00 PM EDT tonight, October 7, 2026, due to dangerous rip currents; swim near lifeguards and know how to escape a current.

Day.News is issuing an urgent community service announcement regarding a Rip Current Statement from the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston, SC.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along all Coastal Georgia beaches, including Coastal Bryan, Coastal Chatham, Coastal Liberty, and Coastal McIntosh counties. This statement is effective immediately and remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, October 7, 2026.

Rip currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS advises beachgoers to swim near a lifeguard if possible. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. Instead, try to swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and wave or call for help.
