Coastal residents and visitors are advised that a Rip Current Statement is in effect for all Georgia beaches through this evening, October 7, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC issued the statement at 7:52 AM EDT, warning of dangerous rip currents in Coastal Bryan, Coastal Chatham, Coastal Liberty, and Coastal McIntosh counties.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. This advisory is expected to remain in effect until 8:00 PM EDT today.

The NWS provides critical safety instructions: If you plan to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
