Coastal residents and visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC. Dangerous rip currents are expected along Georgia Beaches from Friday morning through Friday evening.

The affected areas include Coastal Bryan, Coastal Chatham, Coastal Liberty, and Coastal McIntosh counties. This alert is in effect from October 8, 2026, at 2:38 PM EDT until October 9, 2026, at 8:00 PM EDT.

Rip currents pose a significant threat, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The NWS urges all beachgoers to be aware of this hazard.

If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises the following actions: relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always swim near a lifeguard if available.
