Wind Advisory Issued for Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Big Island — Gusts Up To 55 MPH
A Wind Advisory has been issued for parts of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island from this evening until Sunday, with gusts up to 55 mph expected to cause potential damage and power outages.
Residents across parts of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island should prepare for strong winds starting this evening, September 26, 2026, at 5:04 PM HST until Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM HST. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory.
East winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, primarily over and downwind of terrain. The affected areas include Kahoolawe, Maui Windward West, Haleakala Summit, Big Island Interior, Molokai North, Molokai West, Molokai Leeward South, Lanai South, Maui Central Valley North, Kipahulu, South Maui/Upcountry, and Big Island Southeast.
These strong winds can cause significant impacts, including tearing off shingles, knocking down tree branches, and blowing away tents and awnings. Drivers of high-profile vehicles may find it particularly difficult to steer. Power outages are also possible.
The NWS advises residents to watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Secure tents and awnings, or take them down to prevent damage. Prepare for potential power outages.
