Wind Advisory for Big Island Summits: Secure Objects, Drive Safely
A Wind Advisory has been issued for Big Island Summits until 4:00 PM HST Thursday, with southwest winds up to 60 mph expected; secure outdoor objects and drive safely.
Residents and visitors to the Big Island Summits are advised to secure outdoor objects and use extra caution when driving due to a Wind Advisory now in effect. The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued the advisory until 4:00 PM HST on Thursday, October 8th.
Southwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 30 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. These strong winds can make driving and walking dangerous. The NWS warns that winds of this intensity can forcefully open doors, potentially damaging hinges or causing them to slam shut, which could lead to injuries.
High-profile vehicles are particularly vulnerable to these conditions. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution. Secure any loose outdoor items to prevent them from being blown away or causing damage.
