The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Wind Warning until 6:00 PM HST today, September 27th. East winds are expected to reach 30 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 75 mph. These conditions are particularly anticipated over and downwind of terrain in portions of Maui, the Big Island, Molokai, and Lanai, with a specific emphasis on West Maui and Kohala.
Damaging winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, and potential roof damage. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, due to powerful crosswinds. The National Weather Service advises bringing loose outdoor items inside or securing them properly. Stay away from downed power lines. A High Wind Warning indicates winds of at least 40 mph with gusts over 60 mph.
