Gusty Showers with 40 MPH Winds Impacting Maui; Seek Shelter

Maui is experiencing gusty showers with winds up to 40 mph; residents in affected areas should seek indoor shelter until 3:15 PM HST, according to the National Weather Service.

Maui residents and visitors in the Windward West, Leeward West, Haleakala Summit, Central Valley North and South, Windward Haleakala, Kipahulu, South Maui/Upcountry, and South Haleakala areas are advised to seek shelter indoors due to gusty showers. The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 8, at 2:12 PM HST, reporting wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Emergency management reported these gusty showers over Kahului, moving north at 10 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 3:15 PM HST today.

Locations impacted include, but are not limited to: Honokohau, Haliimaile, Kipahulu, Wailuku, Makawao, Paia, Keokea, Olowalu, Wailea, Waihee, Kaanapali, Launiupoko, Napili-Honokowai, Kihei, Kula, Pukalani, Kapalua, Kanaha Beach Park, Hamoa, and Puunene.

If you are outdoors in these affected areas, please consider seeking shelter inside a building until the statement expires.
