High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory for Pinellas, Coastal Hillsborough

Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough counties are under a High Rip Current Risk from Friday morning through Saturday evening and a Coastal Flood Advisory from 8 AM Friday to 8 AM EDT Saturday, with dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding expected.

Residents in Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough counties should prepare for dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL has issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately until Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 PM EDT.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday evening. Rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float, and not to swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always swim near a lifeguard.

Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 8 AM Friday to 8 AM EDT Saturday, with minor coastal flooding expected. This may result in flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. If travel is required, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property.
