A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka, with hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornadoes expected; residents should complete preparations and seek shelter immediately.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Wewahitchka, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.

Residents in Wewahitchka should plan for hazardous winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph. All efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible, and individuals should move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, broken tree limbs, impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. This poses a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for widespread flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating a very favorable situation for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for many tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.

There is little to no storm surge flooding expected. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, or Gulf County Emergency Management.
