Residents and visitors in Coastal Gulf and Coastal Franklin counties are advised of dangerous swimming conditions due to a Rip Current Statement and High Surf Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Sunday night, October 11, with dangerous rip currents expected. A High Surf Advisory is also in effect from Friday, October 9, at 11:00 AM EDT (10:00 AM CDT) until Sunday, October 11, at 11:00 AM EDT (10:00 AM CDT), bringing large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet in the surf zone.

These conditions will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, along with localized beach erosion. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water.

If you choose to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
