Strong Storm Near Redrock: 50 MPH Winds, Hail, Localized Flooding
A strong thunderstorm near Redrock is bringing 50 mph winds, pea-size hail, and potential localized flooding to several areas in New Mexico, effective until 7:00 PM MDT tonight.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM for areas including the Upper Gila River Valley, Southern Gila Foothills/Mimbres Valley, Southwest Desert/Lower Gila River Valley, Central Grant County/Silver City Area, and Southern Gila Region Highlands/Black Range.
At 6:30 PM MDT on September 29, 2026, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm 11 miles southeast of Redrock, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-size hail. Residents outdoors should consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Impacts from this storm may include downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is also possible. Locations specifically impacted include Lordsburg, White Signal, Tyrone Mine, Shakespeare, and Jacks Peak. This also affects Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 20 and 28.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are advised not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways. This statement is effective until 7:00 PM MDT.
