Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Grant, Luna, Sierra Counties until 11 PM MDT

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Grant, Luna, and Sierra Counties until 11:00 PM MDT, bringing threats of 60 mph winds and quarter-sized hail.

Residents in eastern Grant, southwestern Sierra, and northeastern Luna Counties, New Mexico, should take immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in El Paso. The warning is in effect until 11:00 PM MDT tonight, September 24.

At 10:19 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected 5 miles southwest of Nutt, moving northwest at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Radar indicated this hazard.

Expected impacts include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations that may be impacted include Nutt, Lake Valley, and Uvas Valley.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
