Baldwin Coastal Under Extreme Storm Surge Warning; Evacuate Immediately

Baldwin Coastal, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, is under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with immediate evacuation directives and life-threatening conditions expected to continue through Saturday morning.

BALDWIN COASTAL, AL – October 9, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has issued an Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Baldwin Coastal, effective immediately at 6:53 PM CDT on October 9, 2026. This warning impacts Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan, and is set to expire at 3:00 AM UTC on October 10, 2026.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible, with potential for over 6 feet in surge-prone areas through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations must be complete; evacuees should be in safe shelters. Those who remain must stay sheltered and move to upper floors if water rises.

Tropical Storm force winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 75 mph are expected through the next few hours. Dangerous wind impacts are unfolding. Shelter immediately from these dangerous winds.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rain expected. Major flooding is possible, likely prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. Stay informed and move to the safest part of your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
