Rip Current Statement Issued for Mobile and Baldwin Coasts
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Mobile and Baldwin Coastal Counties from October 10 at 9:07 AM CDT until October 11 at 6:00 PM CDT, warning of dangerous rip currents.
Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile and Baldwin Counties are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL. This statement is effective immediately, October 10 at 9:07 AM CDT, and will remain in effect until Sunday afternoon, October 11 at 6:00 PM CDT.
The NWS warns of dangerous rip currents affecting both Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties. Rip currents pose a significant threat as they can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
Safety instructions for those near the water include: always swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float, and not to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
