Dangerous Rip Currents and High Surf Threaten Mobile and Baldwin Coasts
Dangerous rip currents and high surf are expected along the Mobile and Baldwin County coasts through Sunday afternoon, prompting a warning from the National Weather Service.
Coastal residents and visitors in Mobile and Baldwin Counties are advised to stay out of the water due to a High Surf Warning and High Rip Current Risk issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL.
The High Surf Warning, effective until noon CDT today, October 10th, forecasts dangerously large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet in the surf zone. Following this, a High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Sunday afternoon, October 11th, until 6:00 PM CDT.
The NWS warns that breaking waves can sweep individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas, leading to life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion. Rip currents pose a severe threat, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
Everyone is instructed to remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions. Additionally, the public should stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure to ensure safety.
