Crenshaw County, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Brantley and Luverne, effective October 7 at 4:03 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within these areas within the next 48 hours. Residents should begin preparations immediately.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings is possible. Unsecured objects could become dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may snap or uproot, and roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are expected. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 3-6 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause rapid inundation in low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For local information, contact Crenshaw County EMA at 334-335-4538. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This alert is effective until October 8, 2026, 12:15 AM UTC.
