A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Crenshaw and Covington counties, urging residents to seek shelter indoors. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, reports a strong thunderstorm tracking southwest at 25 mph.

As of 4:12 PM CDT, the storm was located 5 miles north of Dozier, or 12 miles southwest of Luverne. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph, posing a risk of knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects.

Affected locations include Andalusia, Brantley, River Falls, Red Level, Dozier, Heath, and Gantt. The NWS advises if you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.

In addition to strong winds, torrential rainfall is occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also a hazard; remember that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away. Seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This statement is effective until 5:00 PM CDT today.
