Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Crenshaw County: Prepare for Severe Winds, Flooding, and Tornado Threat
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Crenshaw County, including Brantley and Luverne, effective immediately, with severe winds up to 73 mph, significant flooding, and a high tornado threat expected; residents must complete preparations now.
CRENSHAW COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Crenshaw County, effective immediately from 10:06 AM CDT today, October 8, 2026, and expiring at 6:15 PM CDT. This severe warning includes the communities of Brantley and Luverne, urging residents to complete all preparations now.
Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. However, there is a potential for dangerous winds reaching 58 to 73 mph, which could cause significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, and make unsecured objects dangerous projectiles. Large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages.
Significant flooding is also expected, with 2-4 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, requiring potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Driving conditions will become hazardous, with road and bridge closures likely.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures.
