Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Crenshaw: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
Crenshaw County is under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by NWS Mobile, AL, warning of potential strong winds, moderate flooding, and several tornadoes; residents should prepare immediately.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Crenshaw County, including Brantley and Luverne, effective immediately until 12:15 PM CDT today, October 8. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, issued the alert at 4:14 AM CDT, urging residents to begin preparations for severe weather conditions.
Significant impacts are anticipated, with peak winds forecast at 25-35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. However, there is potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph, which could cause substantial damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, and make unsecured objects dangerous projectiles. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Residents should complete all preparations before hazardous winds arrive.
Rainfall of 2-4 inches is expected, with isolated higher amounts, leading to potential moderate flooding. Rivers and streams may overflow, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues, and heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several to develop, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should seek more substantial shelter immediately. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
