Fog, Wintry Mix to Create Hazardous Road Conditions in Copper Valley
A Special Weather Statement from the NWS warns of dense fog and a wintry mix causing slippery roads and patchy black ice in Copper Valley tonight through Monday morning; motorists should slow down and use caution.
Drivers in Northern, Western, Central, Ernestine, and Southern Copper Valley are advised to exercise extreme caution tonight through Monday morning due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Anchorage, Alaska.
Areas of locally dense fog are expected to persist along portions of the Glenn and Richardson Highways, particularly from Glennallen west to Mendeltna, from this evening, October 4, at 7:50 PM AKDT, through early Monday morning, October 5. In addition to the fog, a wintry mix of precipitation is anticipated across the Copper River Basin through Monday morning. Temperatures are forecast to be around freezing, meaning precipitation may fall as a mix of rain, snow, and freezing drizzle. While significant snow and ice accumulation is not expected, the combination of falling precipitation and near-freezing temperatures could lead to slippery road conditions and patchy black ice.
The NWS advises motorists to slow down and use caution when traveling. The fog and precipitation are expected to taper off by early to mid-Monday morning. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
