Winter Weather Advisory Issued for McCarthy: Icy Roads Expected Through Sunday Morning
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for McCarthy, warning of a wintry mix, snow, and potential ice accumulation through 7:00 AM AKDT Sunday; travelers should use extreme caution and check road conditions.
McCarthy residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when traveling as a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7:00 AM AKDT Sunday, October 4. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Anchorage has issued this advisory due to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
Forecasts indicate total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible, with a light glaze of ice. These conditions could make travel very difficult, particularly through the early morning hours on Sunday. The NWS anticipates that the snow may briefly transition to a wintry mix before warming temperatures and southerly winds lead to a change to rain.
To ensure safety, the NWS urges all travelers to slow down and use caution. For the most up-to-date road conditions, residents can call 511 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
