SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL has issued a Rip Current Statement for South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties, specifically impacting Walton and Bay County Beaches. This statement is effective immediately, issued October 4 at 2:14 AM EDT, and remains in effect until Monday, October 6, at 5:00 AM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents are expected throughout this period. Rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The NWS advises the following safety measures: If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
