Rip Current Statement Issued: Exercise Caution at Walton and Bay County Beaches

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Walton and Bay County Beaches until October 4, 2026, advising beachgoers of dangerous rip currents and providing safety instructions.

A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Walton and Bay County Beaches, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL, advises beachgoers to exercise extreme caution through late Saturday night, October 3rd, 2026. This alert is in effect until 4:00 AM EDT on October 4th, 2026.

Dangerous rip currents are expected to impact the coastal areas of South Walton and Coastal Bay. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from the shore, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers into deeper water.

To ensure safety, the National Weather Service provides the following instructions: Always swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you are unable to escape the current, face the shore and call or wave for help.
