Beach Hazards and Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for San Diego, Orange Counties
A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas, warning of dangerous rip currents, high surf, and minor coastal flooding due to high tides.
Coastal officials and residents in San Diego and Orange County coastal areas should take precautionary measures as a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are now in effect. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued these alerts due to expected surf and high tides.
The Beach Hazards Statement is active from October 7 at 2:06 AM PDT until October 9 at 11:00 PM PDT, warning of 3 to 6 foot surf and dangerous rip currents. The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM today until 11 AM PDT Friday, October 8. Minor coastal flooding is expected around high tides, which are predicted to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
Impacts may include flooding of beach parking lots, boardwalks, and roads, though only isolated road closures are anticipated. Minor coastal erosion is also expected. The NWS advises that high astronomical tides, potentially combined with above-normal surf, will likely lead to minor flooding in low-lying beach areas. Coastal officials are urged to implement necessary safeguards for their beaches.
