Beach Hazards Statement Issued for San Diego, Orange County Coasts
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas until Friday evening, with dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding expected; residents should avoid the water and prepare for potential road closures.
A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas, effective immediately until Friday evening, October 9, at 11:00 PM PDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has also issued a Coastal Flood Advisory from 6 AM Wednesday to 11 AM PDT Friday.
Residents and visitors are advised to remain out of the water due to dangerous rip currents and elevated surf of 3 to 5 feet, with sets reaching 6 feet on south and southwest-facing beaches. Minor coastal flooding is expected around high tides, which are predicted to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
Impacts may include flooding of beach parking lots, boardwalks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. Minor coastal erosion is also anticipated. If travel is necessary, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
