CHOCTAW COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Choctaw County, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This watch is in effect until 12:15 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026. Residents in Butler, Lisman, and Silas should prepare for hazardous wind conditions and potential moderate flooding.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Driving conditions may become hazardous, with some road and bridge closures possible.
