A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Choctaw County, effective October 8 at 4:04 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Residents in Butler, Lisman, and Silas should complete all property protection efforts immediately and be prepared to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited impacts are expected from wind, including damage to lightweight objects, large tree limbs breaking, and potential scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, leading to localized overflows. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. The watch is set to expire on October 9 at 12:15 AM UTC.
