A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for South Walton, including Santa Rosa Beach, Sandestin, and Freeport, effective immediately, October 8, 2026, at 5:22 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee warns of life-threatening conditions. Residents in surge-prone areas should evacuate immediately if ordered to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Peak storm surge inundation of 4-7 feet above ground is possible, with potential for over 6 feet above ground. This life-threatening surge is expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Extensive structural damage and uninhabitable conditions are anticipated. Large sections of near-shore routes may wash out.

Dangerous winds are also forecast, with peak gusts up to 80 mph expected from Friday afternoon until Saturday morning. Significant wind damage is likely. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. A Flood Watch is in effect with 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to major flooding. Several tornadoes are also possible.
