North Walton, including De Funiak Springs, is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate threats of dangerous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes; prepare now.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for North Walton, including De Funiak Springs, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL issued this warning today, October 8, at 8:01 AM EDT, expiring at 4:15 PM UTC.

Residents should prepare for dangerous winds with potential for 58 to 73 mph, which can cause significant damage to property. Efforts to protect life and property are underway. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Damage to roofing, siding, mobile homes, and trees is possible, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Roads and bridges may become impassable or washed out.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
