A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for South Walton, effective immediately, October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. This warning signifies a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline within the next 36 hours. Areas specifically affected include Santa Rosa Beach, Sandestin, and Freeport.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL advises immediate action for those in evacuation zones. Leave now if evacuation orders are given for your area to avoid being cut off from emergency services. The potential for life-threatening storm surge flooding is greater than 6 feet above ground, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Tropical Storm force winds are expected with peak gusts up to 70 mph, beginning Friday afternoon and lasting until early Saturday morning. Prepare for significant wind damage and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now.

Additionally, 4-8 inches of rain are forecast, with potential for major flooding and widespread inundation. A few tornadoes are also possible. Monitor NWS Tallahassee for updates, and consult FloridaDisaster.org or Walton County Emergency Management for local information.
