SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD: The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a Rip Current Statement for South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin areas, effective immediately until Saturday, October 4, 2026, at 4:00 AM EDT. This statement indicates the presence of dangerous rip currents.

The NWS reports that dangerous rip currents are expected along Walton and Bay County beaches. Rip currents have the potential to sweep even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper water.

If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the NWS advises you to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If you are able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If escape is not possible, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always swim near a lifeguard if possible.
