Charleston, SC – October 6, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC has issued a Rip Current Statement, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory for Coastal Colleton and Charleston counties, effective immediately. Residents and visitors are urged to take precautions as dangerous conditions are expected.

For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents are expected until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. Swim parallel to the shoreline if possible, or face the shore and call for help.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 2:00 PM EDT Wednesday, with large breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet expected. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is active from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is expected along shorelines and tidal waterways, particularly around the 5:28 PM high tide at Charleston. This may lead to impassable roads and minor property flooding. Drivers should not attempt to drive through flooded areas or around barricades.

Visit water.weather.gov for additional water level and flood impact information. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
