Charleston County residents and visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution at area beaches today due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC. This statement is effective immediately, October 11, at 11:24 AM EDT, and remains in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along all Charleston County beaches. The NWS warns that these currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water, posing a significant hazard.

To ensure safety, the NWS provides the following critical instructions:

  • Swim near a lifeguard.
  • If caught in a rip current, relax and float.
  • Do not swim against the current.
  • If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
  • If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Stay informed and prioritize safety when near the water today.
