Redirecting a Package
USPS Package Intercept® service lets the sender (or authorized representative) stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. Retail Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup. You can only request a Package Intercept online with a USPS.com account. Commercial Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address, to a new delivery address, or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup via Business Customer Gateway. How It Works: 1. Verify that your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept. 2. If eligible, sign in to or create a USPS.com account to submit your request. 3. Use Retail Package Intercept to request that USPS redirect the shipment back to the original sender (you), hold it at the destination Post Office location, or hold it at a new Post Office location. 4. After submitting your request, you'll be provided an estimated total (intercept fee plus estimated postage, if applicable). USPS will then attempt to intercept and redirect the shipment. 5. If the shipment is intercepted, your credit card will be charged the $19.45 Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage. If the actual postage is greater than estimated, any additional postage will be charged accordingly. 6. Your shipment will be redirected to the location you requested. Intercepted items will be redirected as the service it was originally sent with (Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail®, USPS Ground Advantage®, or First-Class Mail®). You must pay the applicable postage. Customers will not be charged if the shipment was not intercepted. If successfully intercepted, the non-refundable Package Intercept fee is applied to each intercept request. Retail and commercial customers can also purchase additional services for the intercepted package, like Adult Signature Required, Adult Signature Restricted Delivery, Signature Confirmation™, and insurance. Use USPS Priority Mail Express Shipping Boxes and pay by weight and zone (distance): Pay for your package based on how much it weighs and how far it's going (the zone). Maximum weight is 70 lbs. Use USPS Priority Mail Express Shipping Boxes that come in standard sizes so you don't have to worry about measuring them. Use your own box and pay by weight and zone (distance): Pay for your package based on how much it weighs and how far it's going (the zone). Maximum weight is 70 lbs. You'll need to measure your package to make sure it meets the size standards. Maximum combined length and girth (girth is the distance around the thickest part) is 108″. Additional Fees: Dimensional (DIM) weight rates apply to large, lightweight packages. If your package is larger than 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches): Multiply Length x Width x Height and divide by 139 to get the DIM weight in pounds. Any fraction of an inch must be rounded up to the next whole inch. If the DIM weight is greater than the actual package weight, you'll need to pay the DIM weight price. If you give inaccurate dimensions and/or don't pay the DIM weight rate (when it applies), you'll pay a dimension-noncompliance fee. Nonstandard Fee: You'll pay extra fees for sending nonstandard packages that are harder for USPS to process. Fees vary based on the length, volume, or characteristics. If your package is: Between 22 and 30 inches long: add $4.50; More than 30 inches long: add $21.00; More than 2 cubic feet (3,456 cubic inches): add $35.00; A nonstandard shape or material: add $4.50 (Cylindrical tube or roll; Can, or wooden or metal box; Contains more than 24 ounces of liquid in glass containers, or 1 gallon or more of liquid in metal or plastic containers; Other mailable items with contents that may shift, or cause the parcel to roll or not maintain the packaging's integrity during processing). Note: If your package has both nonstandard characteristics and length, you'll only pay the higher nonstandard fee, not both. However, the fee for volume exceeding 2 cubic feet applies in all cases. USPS Flat Rate packaging is exempt from all Nonstandard Fees. Live Animal and Perishable Handling Fee: If you're sending live animals or other perishable items like food or plants, you'll need to pay an extra $7.50 handling fee. HAZMAT Handling Fee: If you're sending Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), you'll need to pay an extra $7.50 handling fee. Mailing Restrictions & Prohibitions: There are specific regulations and standards for mailing restricted, prohibited, and hazardous materials, including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Shipping to a Military Post Office (APO/FPO/DPO): You'll pay domestic prices for packages shipped to a Military Post Office, but these destinations require a customs form and have specific restrictions. Requesting a Refund: If your shipment didn't arrive on the guaranteed delivery date or time (found on your receipt), submit a refund request for failure of service within 30 days of the mailing date. USPS Package Intercept - Stop Delivery of Letter or Package
USPS Package Intercept service lets the sender (or authorized representative) stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. Retail Senders can redirect a shipment back to their address or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup. Requests can only be made online with a USPS.com account. Commercial Senders can redirect a shipment back to their address, to a new delivery address, or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup via Business Customer Gateway. How It Works: 1. Verify that your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept. 2. Sign in to or create a USPS.com account to submit your request. 3. Use Retail Package Intercept to request that USPS redirect the shipment back to the original sender, hold it at the destination Post Office location, or hold it at a new Post Office location. 4. After submitting your request, you will be provided an estimated total (intercept fee plus estimated postage, if applicable). 5. If the shipment is intercepted, your credit card will be charged the $19.45 Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage. 6. Your shipment will be redirected to the location you requested. Intercepted items are redirected as the service they were originally sent with (Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, or First-Class Mail). Customers must pay the applicable postage. Customers will not be charged if the shipment was not intercepted. If successfully intercepted, the non-refundable Package Intercept fee is applied to each intercept request. What Is Eligible: - Domestic USPS mail services with a USPS Tracking or extra services barcode - Packages whose total length and girth length is not larger than 130 inches What Is Not Eligible: - USPS Marketing Mail products and periodicals - Items addressed to a Commercial Mailing Receiving Agency - Items redirected to a PO Box - Nonmailable items, items with surface-only transportation markings, or items bearing hazardous materials markings
