Coastal Brunswick: Beach Hazards & Minor Flooding Expected Until 11 PM
Coastal Brunswick faces strong longshore currents and a moderate rip current risk until 8 PM, with minor coastal flooding expected in low-lying areas from 6 PM to 11 PM, according to the National Weather Service.
Coastal Brunswick residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC. Both alerts are in effect today, October 10th.
The Beach Hazards Statement, which warns of strong east to west longshore currents and a moderate risk of rip currents, is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Swimmers and surfers should be aware that these currents can sweep individuals into hazardous areas and make it difficult to return to shore. Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM EDT this evening. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may lead to minor coastal flooding on low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property. Check with local officials for any road closures or impacts.
