Dangerous Rip Currents, Coastal Flooding, High Surf Expected in Brunswick County
Dangerous rip currents, coastal flooding, and high surf are expected in Coastal Brunswick County throughout Sunday, October 11, according to the National Weather Service.
Coastal Brunswick County residents and visitors should prepare for dangerous rip currents, coastal flooding, and high surf conditions throughout Sunday, October 11. The National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC has issued a Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 6 AM EDT Sunday through Sunday evening. Inexperienced swimmers are advised to remain out of the water. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, swim parallel to the shoreline if possible, or face the shore and call for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is active from 7 AM to 10 AM EDT Sunday, with up to half a foot of inundation expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Drivers should allow extra time for travel, avoid driving around barricades or through floodwaters, and take steps to protect flood-prone property. Local officials should be consulted for potential road closures.
A High Surf Advisory is also in effect from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday, with large breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet expected. These conditions create dangerous swimming and surfing environments and may cause localized beach erosion.
