Beach Hazards Statement Issued for Coastal Brunswick County

A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for Coastal Brunswick County until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 10th, due to strong longshore currents and a moderate rip current risk; caution is advised when in or near the water.

Coastal Brunswick County residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution in or near the water today, October 10th, due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC. The statement is effective immediately, from 11:58 AM EDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM EDT tonight.

The primary concerns are strong east to west longshore currents and a moderate risk of rip currents. These conditions can pose significant dangers, as longshore currents are capable of sweeping swimmers and surfers into hazardous areas such as rip currents, piers, and jetties. They can also disorient swimmers, making it difficult to return to shore.

For your safety, the National Weather Service advises checking with lifeguards before entering the ocean to inquire about potential hazards. This information can help you avoid areas where you might be swept away.
