A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Lower Plaquemines, including Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice, with a life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground expected from Friday morning until Saturday morning; residents should complete evacuations and flood preparations immediately.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Lower Plaquemines, including Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice, effective immediately until October 8 at 6:15 PM UTC. The National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans LA warns of a life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 3-5 feet above ground, primarily outside the levees, from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in these areas should complete all evacuation efforts and flood preparations as soon as possible. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to buildings, weakened or washed-out escape routes, major shoreline erosion, and damage to marinas and docks.
While wind threats have decreased, peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 40 mph are still possible, with potential for wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph. Complete all remaining efforts to protect property and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Scattered power outages and limited damage to structures like porches and unanchored mobile homes are anticipated. Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected, with localized flooding possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
