A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Lower Plaquemines, including Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice, by the National Weather Service New Orleans, LA, effective October 8 at 4:03 AM CDT. This warning indicates an extreme and immediate threat of life-threatening storm surge.

Residents in these areas should plan for life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 3 feet above ground. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed immediately as conditions will become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Significant impacts are anticipated, including damage to buildings, weakened or washed-out escape routes, and major shoreline erosion.

Wind speeds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 55 mph are expected, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Residents should move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous and prepare for significant wind damage.
