A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Lower Plaquemines, including Port Sulphur, Empire, and Venice, by the NWS New Orleans LA, effective immediately as of October 8 at 4:03 AM CDT. Residents must complete all preparations for dangerous wind and life-threatening storm surge.

Significant wind impacts are expected, with peak wind forecasts of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Prepare for significant wind damage, including potential for damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings. Unsecured lightweight objects will become dangerous projectiles. Move to safe shelter as soon as possible before winds become hazardous.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed without delay. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Rainfall is expected to be 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, but little to no flooding is anticipated. Tornadoes are not expected. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency. This warning expires October 8 at 12:15 PM UTC.
