Dangerous Rip Currents Expected for Gulf Coast Beaches Through Sunday Night
A Rip Current Statement has been issued by NWS Tallahassee for Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin county beaches, warning of dangerous rip currents from Friday morning through late Sunday night.
Beachgoers in Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin counties are advised to exercise extreme caution as a Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Dangerous rip currents are expected from October 11 at 4:10 AM EDT until late Sunday night, October 12, at 4:00 AM EDT.
These rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters. The affected areas include the coastal beaches of South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties.
The NWS urges everyone to be aware of the hazards. If you are planning to visit the beaches in these areas, always swim near a lifeguard. In the event you are caught in a rip current, remain calm, relax, and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
This statement is in effect and active throughout the weekend. Please prioritize your safety and heed these warnings from the National Weather Service.
