Dangerous Rip Currents Expected for South Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin Co. Beaches
Dangerous rip currents are expected through late Sunday night for South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin beaches, according to a National Weather Service statement.
Beachgoers in South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. The statement indicates dangerous rip currents are expected through late Sunday night, October 11, 2026.
These conditions pose a risk to swimmers and surfers and can also cause localized beach erosion. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from the shore, capable of pulling even strong swimmers into deeper water.
The NWS advises individuals to swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the instruction is to relax and float, avoiding the urge to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
This Rip Current Statement is effective from Friday, October 10, 2026, at 3:21 PM EDT, and is set to expire on Sunday, October 12, 2026, at 4:00 AM EDT.
