Beachgoers in South Walton, Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and Coastal Franklin counties are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This statement is effective immediately, from October 8 at 2:51 AM EDT, and will remain in effect until October 12 at 4:00 AM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along the beaches of Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin Counties throughout this period, specifically through late Sunday night. These powerful currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water, posing a significant risk.

The NWS advises specific safety measures: always swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. These instructions are crucial for personal safety during this period of elevated risk.
