A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Dougherty County, including Albany, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This watch is in effect from Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:05 PM EDT, expiring Friday, October 9, 2026, at 7:15 AM EDT. Residents are urged to complete all preparations now.
Forecasts indicate potential for sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the threat includes potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Scattered power outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and creeks may overflow, and some roads may become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
There is also a significant potential for several tornadoes. Emergency plans should account for tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
